Confirmed! Dulquer Salmaan, Diana Penty’s Salute to release on Sony LIV on this date

Actor Dulquer Salmaan on Sunday confirmed that his next Malayalam film, Salute , will be a direct-to-OTT release on Sony LIV. The Rosshan Andrrews directorial, which is scripted by Bobby and Sanjay, will mark the actor’s first straight OTT release.

Salute was initially slated to hit theatres on January 13 this year, but was postponed due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in Kerala and also because of the Omicron variant threat. The makers, however, has decided against a theatrical release, and instead opted for a direct-to-OTT release on Sony LIV that was confirmed by Dulquer through his social media post on Sunday.

The film is an investigative thriller that has Dulquer playing the role of a police officer named Aravind Karunakaran. Manoj K Jayan plays his brother and senior officer, while Bollywood actress Diana Penty, who is making her Malayalam debut with the movie, plays Dulquer’s romantic interest in Salute.

The movie, which was shot entirely during the pandemic, is also produced by Dulquer. It also has Saniya Iyyappan, Binu Pappu, Vijayakumar and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy in pivotal roles.

While Sony LIV is yet to announce its release date, reports suggest that the movie will drop on the OTT platform on March 18. An official confirmation on this is awaited.

Meanwhile, there are also rumours that Mammootty’s Puzhu , which is distributed by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films, has also opted for a direct-to-OTT release on Sony LIV and could drop on the platform in April. Again, this has not been confirmed by the makers. We had reached out to a source close to the team, who had told us that they were in negotiations with two OTT platforms back in January.

Dulquer, meanwhile, is set to begin shoot of Soubin Shahir’s Othiram Kadakam next . He will also be producing the movie, which marks Soubin’s second directorial venture after Parava.
