Starring Mammootty, Kannur Squad is an investigative drama film, directed by Roby Varghese Raj
Mammootty-starrer investigative thriller Kannur Squad, directed by Roby Varghese Raj, has crossed the ₹50 crore mark. Dulquer Salmaan, who distributed the film through his company Wayfarer Films, has congratulated the movie’s cast and crew and expressed his gratitude towards the audience. Taking to social media, the actor said, “I extend my congratulations to the entire team of Kannur Squad. I also want to thank the audience for their never-ending support and love for the film.”
Kannur Squad - Mammootty’s second film to cross the ₹50 crore mark
Before Kannur Squad, Mammootty’s 2022 film Bheeshma Parvam, directed by Amal Neerad, had also earned over ₹50 crores at the box office. The film was released at a time when theatres were struggling due to the dent created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Kannur Squad, on the other hand, was released following the success of films like 2018: Everyone is a Hero and RDX: Robert Dony Xavier that garnered a lot of attention.
Most of Mammootty’s recent films have been received well, by the audience and critics alike. He was able to balance commercial films like Rorschach and Christopher, alongside award-winning performances in movies like Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. Rorschach and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam have not only showcased Mammootty’s acting prowess but have also helped his production house, Mammootty Kampany, to gain recognition.
Will Kannur Squad hit the ₹100 crore mark?
With no major releases until October 19, Kannur Squad is expected to have a successful run at the theatres. Meanwhile, Chaaver, which was released on October 5, has received a lukewarm response at the box office, helping Kannur Squad to continue its successful run. Whether or not the film will reach the ₹100 crore milestone is left to be seen. If it does, Kannur Squad will mark the first Mammootty film to cross the coveted ₹100 crore mark.
