Last year, an announcement that surely had Dulquer Salmaan fans elated was his collaboration with director Joshiy’s son Abhilash Joshiy for a gangster film titled King of Kotha. While it’s been almost a year since the announcement, there have been no updates regarding the movie.
Now, speaking to OTTplay, the film’s director Abhilash, who is almost done with the film’s pre-production, tells us, “We are now hoping to begin shoot of the film by the end of August or beginning of September. We are currently busy with the casting of the movie and will be announcing it once everything has been finalised in a few weeks.”
The movie, which is produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films, is scripted by Abhilash N Chandran, who had previously written Porinju Mariyam Jose. In an earlier interview with us, Abhilash Joshiy had told us that the movie is based on the events that transpire in a town called Kotha. “It’s not a typical ‘mass’ film,” he said, adding that it will have elements that would appeal to both the family and youth audience.
Rumours have been rife that apart from Dulquer, several big stars are expected to be part of the film, with the antagonist also having a large scope for performance. Another actor is expected to feature in a special appearance. Aishwarya Lekshmi’s name has been doing the rounds as the female protagonist in the film. The team, however, has not confirmed any of these casting rumours and asks to wait till the official announcement is made.
Dulquer, meanwhile, is expected to wrap up shooting for Soubin Shahir’s Othiram Kadakkam before he starts work on King of Kotha. The star also has several movies lined up for release including the Bollywood thriller Chup and the period romantic drama Sita Ramam. He is also set to make his webseries debut with Guns and Gulaabs, which is directed by Raj and DK.
