Dulquer Salmaan’s Salute drops on OTT a day early, here’s where you can stream the investigative thriller

Fans of Dulquer Salmaan who had been waiting for almost two months for his investigative thriller Salute to release were in for a surprise on Thursday. The star took to his social media page to announce that film is now available to stream online, a day ahead of its planned March 18 release.

Dulquer wrote that the team couldn’t wait for everyone to watch the Rosshan Andrrews directorial and hence decided to release it a day early. Salute, which is scripted by Bobby and Sanjay, is an investigation drama that marks the Malayalam actor’s first full-length role as a police officer.

He plays sub inspector Aravind Karunakaran in the film, which also has Manoj K Jayan as his elder brother and senior officer Ajith Karunakaran. Salute also marks Diana Penty’s Malayalam debut. Saniya Iyyappan, Deepak Parambol, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Binu Pappu and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy are the other cast members.

The film revolves around a cop who tries to crack a long-standing unsolved case and his obsession with the investigation impacts both his professional and personal life. Years later, Aravind finds a clue that helps him reopen the case.

Salute, which is streaming on Sony LIV now, is Dulquer’s first direct-to-OTT release. The movie was initially supposed to hit theatres on January 14, but was postponed due to the Omicron threat. The film’s OTT release, however, didn’t go down well with the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK), which earlier this week, announced that they wouldn’t be co-operating with Dulquer or his production house anymore as there was a breach of trust between actor and the theatre owners.

Wayfarer Films, the production house, however, informed us that they had signed the OTT deal of Salute first and then decided to release the movie in theatres. The streaming service’s contract mandated that the film hit the OTT platform on or before March 31 and that’s why they had no other option but to release it on Sony LIV.
