Craig Gillespie's multistarrer film 'Dumb Money', which released in theatres on September 15, 2023, is now all set to arrive on OTT. The comedy-drama starring Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, Vincent D'Onofrio, America Ferrera and others will premiere on Book My Show on November 30 and will be made available with a Rent/Buy option.
What's Dumb Money all about?
Dumb Money is based on the 2021 book 'The Antisocial Network' by Ben Mezrich and in essence, traces the Short Squeeze (a trading phenomenon) of the American retailer Gamestop at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. When Keith Gill (Dano) invests all his life savings into the plummeting stock value of GameStop and shares timely updates via his YouTube channel, little does he know that his life would turn on its head when he is regarded as a financial guru by the general public.
But he finds his newfound fame (an unsolicited one) to be a shortlived one because before he realizes it, sh*t hits the fan and the United States House Committee on Financial Services is now investigating the short squeeze. Keith isn't the only one involved in the investigation, mind you, because several other entities including Gabe Plotkin (Seth Rogen), the founder of Melvin Capital Management, hedge fund owner Ken Griffin (Nick Offerman) and finance entrepreneur Vlad Tenev (Sebastian Stan). Do the consequences of this bizarre market play weigh too heavily on these individuals? Or do they find a way out after all?

Critical response to Dumb Money
Dumb Money opened in theatres to highly encouraging reviews with critics particularly praising the film's pacing, its hold on the real-life scenario and also the performances of the ensemble cast. A few did find the film adaptation not tracing the entire real-life scenario that took place in 2021 but its crowd-pleasing antics were executed well, nevertheless, added those reviews. However, despite the positive reviews, Dumb Money could not yield positive results at the box office and according to Wikipedia, the film failed to break even the budget of $30 million.
