The film had its global theatrical release in March this year and featured a bunch of talented actors, including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem.

Dune: Part Two - plot summary

Joining up with Chani and the Fremen, Paul Atreides embarks on a legendary quest in Dune: Part Two to exact retribution on the conspirators responsible for his family's demise. He tries to stop a horrible future that only he can see while juggling his love for his life and the destiny of the known universe.

In adapting Frank Herbert's novel Dune for the big screen, Villeneuve collaborated with Jon Spaihts to write the script. Production credits go to Patrick McCormick, Tanya Lapointe, Villeneuve, Cale Boyter, and Mary Parent. Josh Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert are all executive producers, while creative consultant Kevin J. Anderson is also on board. Hans Zimmer once again composes the score.

Box office success and critical acclaim

Following its March theatrical release, the Denis Villeneuve film surpassed $500 million in domestic and international box office receipts, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2024. It has amassed nearly $665 million worldwide. Upon its debut, the film received widespread praise and unexpected financial success. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive, with critics praising the film's visual effects and acting. Some critics ranked it among the all-time great science fiction flicks.

Meanwhile, Villeneuve has stated time and again that he would like to adapt the second book in the series, Dune Messiah, into a film, but that this would be contingent upon the box office success of Dune: Part Two.
