If there is one thing that Dune: Prophecy has taught us about Valya, it is that the woman is never coming down to the second position. She remains on the top no matter how many plans are plotted and games are played. But what made us curious is why she is so determined to only win and looks at defeat as death. Episode one made us meet her directly at the Sisterhood’s homeland, where she was already influential and in line to become the Reverend Mother. So, there was no gateway to know what had gone into Valya Harkonnen becoming such a stone-hearted character that will not even blink an eyelid at someone's death. Well, the makers have now established why with the third episode, which is by far the most complex of them all. While some might find it to stray from the vibe the entire show has created in the last two episodes, it is important.

So, in episode three of Dune: Prophecy, we are standing at the brink of a war between Desmond Hart and the Sisterhood, which he is planning to eradicate completely after removing Valya from the Emperor’s side. We meet Valya as she says this is not the first time a supremacist has challenged her position in the Imperium. We are then taken years back when Valya was young and living with her Harkonnen family, and everyone only misunderstood her for being greedy and heartless. We are told how Valya was always looked at as the spoiled child who is not good, while Tula was the good sister. But this never meant there was any enmity between Valya and Tula. What happened next is a crazy episode you must witness. Below are the highlights.

Dune: Prophecy Episode 3 Highlights

Valya Seeks Revenge

Young Valya in episode three tells us how it was always the Harkonnens who were supposed to rule the Imperium and be the emperor. But the Atreides accused them of false charges and eradicated them from the Imperium, snatching away their rights. So, as Valya sees her family suffer on a planet covered in ice, waiting for a cold death, she seeks justice and revenge from the Atreides for doing this to them. The family opposes her idea because they are now happy with whatever they have left. But that is not enough for Valya, who wants revenge. She tells her brother Griffin to get her that revenge. What happens next should not be spoiled for you.

Tula Makes The Sacrifice… Twice

While Valya’s rebellion is loud and she voices it often, Tula is feeling all of that anger but is also expected to be domesticated all the time. But she is also watching her sister die with that rage every single day, being misunderstood all the time. So, she decides to take things into her hands and enter the Atreides camp to end them all. But little does she know that she will fall in love there. When the night grows and things turn serious, she is now supposed to choose between revenge and love. What will she choose? Watch the third episode. The second sacrifice comes in the present time, where she is supposed to part ways with Lila, who succumbed to the impact of Agony in episode two after having become a channel for Mother Superior Raquella, who gave out the prophecy.

The Harkonnens Never Forget

What is even more interesting in Dune: Prophecy is how it looks at the Harkonnens. The films have forever seen them as the bad people who have done bad things to the good Atreides. But that has become the narrative over the course of 10,000 years. We are now told how the Harkonnens were once where Paul Atreides and his mother are right now in the film trilogy. If kept side by side, Paul and Valya are the two sides of the same coin. It also explains the hatred the two houses share and how it has transcended through times, generations, and ages. However, the episode ends with Valya going to her home to meet her Harkonnen uncle, and that means she hasn't forgotten her roots yet.

Desmond Hart Is The Key!

While Desmond Hart has no contribution to the third episode of Dune: Prophecy, there is tension he infused looming around. While we all already decoded that Mother Superior Raquella’s prophecy about the key to reckoning was talking about Hart, Valya confirmed it in this episode. She is informed that Sister Lila didn't survive the Agony but was able to reach Mother Superior Raquella Berto-Anirul, who, in a prophecy, said, "The key to the reckoning is one born twice; once in blood, once in spice." This instantly reminds Valya of Desmond Hart, and this means the fight is not going to be easy now.
