Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover, among others.
Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dunki has finally hit theaters yesterday, driving fans into a frenzy. With the global box office success of both Jawan and Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan's career has been at its best this year. However, the buzz surrounding his most recent movie, Dunki, hasn't been as strong as it could have been.
On its first day of release in Hindi, Dunki made ₹30 crore in India, according to a Sacnilk report. On Thursday, the movie's Hindi occupancy rate was 29.94% overall. Fans celebrated and posted reviews and celebrations on social media shortly after the movie's premiere. It is now the seventh-biggest opening of the year, behind Adipurush, Jawan, Animal, Pathaan, Tiger 3, and Gadar 2.
It is to be noted that SRK's Pathaan, directed by Siddharth Anand grossed ₹57 crores on the first day while his second release, Jawan, beat Pathaan's record and minted ₹74.50 crores.
The opening numbers of Rajkumar Hirani's film are lower than those of his last smash, 2018's Sanju. During its theatrical run, the Ranbir Kapoor starrer film earned a total of ₹342.53 despite starting at ₹34.75 crore.
Dunki vs Salaar
Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran's eagerly awaited Salaar opened today in theatres and it would be interesting to see what kind of box office receipts Dunki generates post this. Directed by Prashanth Neel, Salaar is a competitor and could have an impact on Dunki's box office collections. Both the general public and critics have responded differently to Dunki's release. Salaar could have the advantage over Dunki if the crowd responded well to their opening.
