Officially, the family film Durlabh Prasad Ki Dusri Shadi has made the switch to streaming services after its December 19, 2025, theatrical debut. The movie is available to stream on JioHotstar beginning today, March 23, 2026. Siddhant Raj Singh directs the ensemble cast of the film, which includes Sanjay Mishra, Mahima Chaudhry, Vyom Yadav, and Pallak Lalwani.
Set in the holy city of Varanasi, the film follows the life of Mishra's Durlabh Prasad, a widower who owns a small barbershop. He and his son Murli, played by Yadav, live a modest existence alongside his brother-in-law Ram Manch Prasad, played by Shrikant Verma. The story changes when Murli begins to develop romantic feelings for Mehak (Lalwani).
Murli receives an unusual ultimatum from Mehak's father, the rich and status-obsessed Brajnarayan Bharti (Pravin Singh Sisodia), when he asks for her hand in marriage. Brajnarayan is adamant about not placing his daughter in a home that lacks a female figure. He makes Durlabh Prasad, Murli's father, find a wife and remarry before he can marry Mehak. The first part of the film is based on this idea, and it follows Murli as he uses matrimonial apps and local astrologers in a comical but desperate quest to find a good wife for his father.
In the role of Durlabh, a widower torn between his personal happiness and his son's joy, Mishra gives a realistic portrayal. Babita, played by Mahima Chaudhry, is Durlabh's ex-lover who reappears in his life while he is searching. She is depicted as a strong, autonomous woman whose unconventional ways of living cause additional societal tensions with Mehak's traditional family.
Noted for his lively performance, Yadav captures the difficulties of a young guy trying to navigate small-town conventions as son Murli. As the encouraging brother-in-law, Verma offers the most comic relief, whilst Sisodia is the stern antagonist whose demands drive the story.
Prashant Singh wrote the screenplay and story, and Adesh K. Arjun contributed dialogue. The cinematography of Anil Singh, who captured the ghats and lanes of Banaras to give the family drama a realistic feel, is a major technical component of the film. With its theatrical release came the viral success of Anurag Saikia's Ishq Hai and other songs from the film's score.
Durlabh Prasad Ki Dusri Shadi garnered a mixed to good reception when it played in theatres in late 2025. For its attempt to tackle the social stigma of late-life remarriage, critics largely lauded the film's leading performances. But several critics said the second half was tedious and the ending was predictable.
After three months of exclusive screenings in theatres, the film's digital distribution on JioHotstar today officially ends the window. The move is thought to reach more people who might have missed the small-town drama's limited big-screen engagement.
