Eager to join #DBoss celebrations, Urvashi Rautela tweets birthday wish; gets schooled

For a while now, Kannada cinema’s Challenging Star Darshan, who is fondly known as DBoss by his fans, has been trending on social media. Every other day #DBoss is, most definitely a trending keyword. The reason behind this is the ongoing celebration for the actor’s upcoming film Kranti, for which his fans have been conducting processions across the state. Urvashi Rautela, who was Darshan’s co-star in Mr Airavata, decided to be a part of the celebration, but totally misread the situation. “@dasadarshan happy birthday my 1st costar 🎂we alll love you 🙌🏻,” she posted.

While some fans applauded her for wanting to be a part of the celebration, others said she ought to know better. “It's not today dear @UrvashiRautela it's on February 16th Please come out of your hangover and delete this tweet,” wrote one, while others then explained the context behind the celebrations.

According to the grapevine, there’s some sort of media ban on Darshan for the actor’s refusal to address the media and his open public disdain of members of the press. In the immediate aftermath, Darshan had posted a thank you note to his fans on social media, as his token of gratitude for staying by his side through thick and thin. Over the past few years, Darshan has had a tumultuous relationship with the media. The star has always been clear about giving interviews only when he has something to talk about, like, for instance, when he has an upcoming release. He remains elusive at most other times. But given that his personal life has been the subject of intense public scrutiny in the years since his arrest and brief incarceration for domestic abuse, his every move and word is of great interest to the media. Whether it is the alleged brawls he gets into after a tipple or two, the mysterious parties at his farmhouse in Mysuru that are attended by a lot of his film friends, fallouts with filmmakers or property disputes, among others – every time Darshan’s name is involved, there is media coverage, which is often not favourable to the actor, more so because of his sometimes-brash responses to queries or refusals to address any.
