In Lifeu Ishtene actor Diganth’s next release Edagaiye Apaghatakke Karana, a dark comedy suspense thriller that is set to hit theatres on June 13, the actor plays a southpaw. The film by Samarth B Kadkol is about the issues a left-hander faces in day-to-day life and the trouble that befalls him when he tries to follow a more socially acceptable right-handedness.
The trailer of Edagaiye Apaghatakke Karana, came out this week, and introduced audiences to Diganth’s character Lohit, whose fight is about surviving in a world designed for right-handers. And when he tries to conform to it, it lands him in massive trouble – with 4 murders and an accident registered against him.
Diganth was apparently chosen for the role because Samarth is a fan of the actor’s comic timing, among others, and not because he’s a leftie. In fact, Diganth’s dominant hand is his right and portraying a leftie was harder than he thought.
On the set, Samarth would insist that Diganth use his left-hand even when off camera, so that it would not be difficult for him to adjust to it during the scene. But more often than not, Diganth would get most of it right but unknowingly switch to his dominant side every now and then, which would then require them to repeat the shot all over again.
The film, meanwhile, is a story that transpires over 2 days, with much of the narrative occurring at night. Samarth, according to the actor, was inspired by the troubles a left-handed friend faced in writing this tale, which he then fictionalized and took cinematic liberties to put it together. Diganth is joined by debutante Dhanu Harsha, Nidhi Subbaiah, with whom he reunites after Pancharangi , Sourav Lokesh, Krishna Hebbale, among others.
Edagaiye Apaghatakke Karana does not have much competition from Kannada films in its release week, but will be up against the Malayalam film Ronth, starring Roshan Mathew and Dileesh Pothan, and the latest John Wick spin-off, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, among others.
