Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain Returns starring John Abraham, Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor and Tara Sutaria released with a lot of expectations pinned to it. Being a sequel to a much loved movie, Ek Villain returns was also expected to make a decent start at the box office, and this is exactly what it has done.

As reported by Box Office India, the sequel has made a solid Rs. 6.75 crore nett on its opening day. While the movie did not get a great reception at premium multiplexes, it did well in normal multiplexes, attracting the young aducience. According to the report, the movie did well in states such as UP, Gujarat, Bihar and Nizam / Andhra and the movie’s expected first day collection grew after the morning shows.

While the movie does not have any major crowd pullers in its cast, it has still managed to make an upbeat opening, with some single screen theatres in Tier 2 belts having been at 70% occupancy as reported by Pinkvilla. With the fanfare the sequel has received thanks to the original movie which was released in 2014, Ek Villain Returns can expect a good first weekend.

Directed by Mohit Suri, the sequel also features J. D. Chakravarthy, Karishma Sharma and Kaizaad Kotwal in important roles. Bankrolled by T-Series and Balaji Motion Pictures, the sequel received fairly negative reviews following its release.

“Ek Villain Returns tries too hard to be daring and ends up taking absurdity to the next level. The plot becomes predictable after a point in time, and it becomes excruciating with the bizarre dialogues adding to it,” read the movie’s review on OTTplay.

Ek Villain Returns is currently available in theatres around the country.
