Mohit Suri, who helmed the hit 2014 movie Ek Villain, has returned with its sequel titled Ek Villain Returns. Starring John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Tara Sutaria and Disha Patani, the movie has now finished its first weekend on a high.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the movie made Rs. 9.02 crore on its third day, finishing its opening weekend with a collection of Rs. 23.56 crores.

“#EkVillainReturns shows an upward trend on Day 3, thus clocking a decent weekend... Mass pockets driving its biz... Mon - Thu biz crucial, the trend will give an idea of its lifetime biz... Fri 7.05 cr, Sat 7.47 cr, Sun 9.02 cr. Total: ₹ 23.54 cr. #India biz,” Adarsh wrote on Twitter.

Arjun Kapoor recently took to social media to share the fanfare his movie is receiving in theatres. The actor shared a photo of him holding the housefull board in front of a theatre along with Tara and Disha. The actor said that he will sleep with a smile on his face as actors work for housefull boards outside theatres.

While the movie has made a pretty decent first week opening at the box office, it has received mixed to negative reviews following its release.

“Ek Villain Returns tries too hard to be daring and ends up taking absurdity to the next level. The plot becomes predictable after a point in time, and it becomes excruciating with the bizarre dialogues adding to it,” read the movie’s review on OTTplay.

Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, the sequel is now playing in theatres around the country.
