Ekam out on OTT: 7-part Karavali anthology series is now on a mainstream platform
Ekam, produced by actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty, among others, was on an independent platform designed by the makers, after failing to attract OTTs. That’s changed now

Ekam, the Kannada web series that actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty greenlit as far back as 2020, took a while in the making and then some more in the hunt for a streaming home. When all efforts failed, the team was forced to create an independent platform and host their content there, which they then made available at Rs 149 rental. Cut to a year and a half later and Ekam’s found a second home at Zee5, with the platform making it available as of January 9, 2026. It is available via OTTplay Premium also.
Ekam's an anthology of 7 different tales from Karavali
Unlike the 3 other Kannada series Zee5 brought to audiences last year – Ayyana Mane, Shodha and Maarigallu – Ekam is not a single story told across 7 episodes. It is an anthology with 7 different stories capturing the culture and vibe of the Karavali region, each around 35 minutes long, featuring actors like Raj B Shetty, Prakash Raj, Shine Shetty, Prakash Thuminad, among others.
For instance, Haaraata, directed by Sankar Gangadharan and Vivek Vinod is a tender love story between Manjula and Thomas, with their religious differences and patriarchy the subjects of discussion. Shoonya is about a master huntsman, who loses his exceptional prowess, while Dombaraata follows a Dubai returnee’s desperate attempts to make a living back home with a dairy farm. The stories are in Kannada, Tulu and even Malayalam.
Created by Sandeep PS and Sumanth Bhat, this was meant to be Season 1 of Ekam, with more to come depending on the response to the show. Now that Zee5 has taken it under its wing, could the streamer extend its support to enable Sandeep and co to bring more such stories from different parts of the state to audiences?

Q. When was Ekam first launched?
A. Ekam, the Kannada web series, was launched in 2020, with Rakshit Shetty onboard as producer. However, over time, other investors were brought onboard and by 2022, the team began looking for a streaming partner. When they could not find any even after two years, they launched their own platform, ekamtheseries.com and hosted it there at a rental of Rs 149 only in July 2024.
