Ekka on OTT: Netizens call Yuva Rajkumar’s film a hot mess; feel actor is being wasted by directors

Yuva Rajkumar is only two films old, but it is clear that his career trajectory is being planned vastly different from what his brother Vinay is following. While Vinay has been picking characters across genres and is not chasing the success of mass commercial ventures, the latter is exactly what Yuva is being prepped for, as he has been positioned as the successor to the void left by the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar. But two films later, Yuva has not really made a major impact yet. He showed audience that he is a fantastic dancer and fighter in the self-titled debut, but audiences felt that his acting chops left a lot to be desired.

With Rohit Padaki’s Ekka , which came out in July, he was expected to make improvement in leaps and bounds, but that was not to be, given that the script did not offer the actor much to chew on. The film’s theatrical run was below par with trackers estimating that it did not have much return on investment and now that it is finally on OTT, a good 4 months later, there are still more brickbats than bouquets.

Ekka on OTT: Netizens say film lacked strong story 

The problem, reckon netizens, is in Rohit’s script, which lacks coherence. “Ekka is a hot mess; what the hell was Muthu’s motive?” wrote a viewer. “Yuva Rajkumar needs to be smart and make sure technical n story aspects are strong, which Ekka lacked,” added another. A third chimed in, “KFI directors keep giving Yuva poor avatars and rowdy roles instead of a solid mass story that he deserves.” Yet another summed it up, writing, “Ekka - Jackie , jogi , salaga ,tagaru , om ella mix madi IVADOPU madikkavre.”

During the theatrical release, it seemed that the film was getting mixed response from audiences, with fans absolutely loving it and others not so much. Now, with the OTT outing, though, it seems the tide is not in favour of team Ekka. Yuva’s acting and dialogue delivery continued to be a bone of contention, with audiences adding that Rohit’s execution was also quite poor.
