Ekka on OTT: Tentative streaming date of Yuva Rajkumar film out?

Ekka, the Yuva Rajkumar film directed by Rohit Padaki, ended its theatrical run a while ago and has, since, been speculated to be set for a streaming debut. Several dates have been reported so far, beginning with August 15, and, more recently September 5, but there’s been no sign of the film. According to the latest, Ekka will make its OTT debut on September 12, but this comes with no affirmation from the makers or the platform. Social media is abuzz that Ekka will be on Z5 on September 12, which is only a day after Rajinikanth’s Coolie hits OTT.

Ekka on Prime Video or Z5?

It was initially thought that Ekka would be headed to Amazon Prime Video, much like Yuva’s self-titled debut film and the producers’ other ventures. Pretty much all their films so far, including the ones that failed at the box office, made it to Prime Video. But then it was reported that Zee Network acquired the rights, while also collaborating with the producers of Ekka on a web series, Shodha. Representatives from Zee had announced at the Shodha press conference that the network was actively acquiring Kannada content, including films.

While they didn’t specify any particular title, it led to speculation that Ekka would be on Z5. A confirmation about the platform and release date is expected shortly. In 2025, Zee has had only two Kannada film releases so far, Kiccha Sudeep’s Max and the Hemanth M Rao production, Agnyathavasi, both of which were deals finalized in 2024. The streamer is yet to officially announce acquisition of any 2025 title. Will Ekka be the first?

The film was Yuva’s sophomore project and thought to be the film to end Sandalwood’s drought. While it did bring some crowds to theatres, trackers estimate that it did not recover its budget from theatrical collections. The film had a good opening, but was then severely impacted by the good showing of Su From So and Mahavatar Narsimha, both of which did phenomenally well at the Karnataka box office.
