Ekka on OTT: Yuva Rajkumar’s film not on Prime Video but headed to THIS platform?

Netizens have been waiting for Yuva Rajkumar’s film, Ekka, to drop on OTT for a while. Industry trackers stated that the film, much like most other Kannada films worth their salt, was headed to Amazon Prime Video, which routinely picks up content from the industry. It was considered a given that no other streamer would be in contention, because the production houses that had backed the film had all their previous ventures on Prime Video after the theatrical run, including the ones that did not fare well at the box office.

If the latest reports are to be believed, Ekka has not yet made it to OTT because the streaming rights are with another platform. Apparently, Zee has the digital rights, and the film is headed to Z5 shortly. The writing should have been on the wall because the network had chosen the press meet of the new Kannada web series Shodha, which is produced by the same team behind Ekka as well, to announce that besides shows, they were also acquiring Kannada films. If this development is indeed true, Ekka will be the second Kannada film since Kiccha Sudeep’s Max to head to Z5. Agnyathavasi made it to the streamer too, but that was a deal that was hashed out well before the theatrical outing.

If Ekka follows Max’s OTT timeline, it would mean a release date closer to the 50-60 days mark from theatrical outing. In which case, the film will likely be on the platform before the 12th. As of now, Z5 has the Malayalam series Kammattam and a Hindi movie called Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan slated for release on September 5. Given the double festival (Eid/Onam) long weekend, could Ekka drop on that day? Well, hopefully an official announcement is not far off.

Directed by Rohit Padaki, Ekka, according to industry trackers, was not a box office success, with the theatrical share pegged around Rs 11-12 cr only. The team had, however, celebrated its success by day 3 and no official box office figures have been forthcoming. The film also starred Sanjana Anand, Sampadaa Hulivana, Shruti Krishna, Atul Kulkarni, Poorna Mysore and Adityaa, among others.

A. As of August 18, 2025, Ekka, which released on July 18, ended its theatrical run.
