Ekka on OTT: Yuva Rajkumar’s film to get a festive outing?

Yuva Rajkumar’s Ekka ended its theatrical run earlier this week and was actually expected to be on OTT by then. It had been reported that the Rohit Padaki directorial’s streaming rights had been sold and that it would be out before the 30-day mark. The Independence Day long weekend was mooted as the likely release window, but that came and went and there was no sign of Ekka online. What did come audiences’ way were the full videos of the hit songs Bangle Bangari, Rowdy Rhymes and Dooradalli Yaaro Ninthu – all in quick succession over the last 4-5 days, prompting fresh speculation about the film’s OTT outing.

According to the latest buzz on social media, Ekka is getting a festive OTT release. Netizens reckon that the film will begin streaming during Ganesha Chaturthi. August 27 is the new OTT release date that’s been mooted for Ekka, with Amazon Prime Video said to be the platform. Of course, yet again, there’s been no official confirmation on this from the production house or the streamer.

Ekka, according to industry trackers is not a box office success, ending its theatrical run with a theatrical share of around Rs 10 crore only, against a reported budget of Rs 15 cr. The team had, however, had a success celebration by Day 3 of the theatrical outing. In the week of its release, Ekka had clashed with Junior, and fared better than the latter. But then, only a week later, Raj B Shetty’s Su From So came along and took the box office by storm, which heavily impacted Ekka.

The film, which also starred Atul Kulkarni, Poorna Mysore, Adityaa, Puneeth Rudranag, Sanjana Anand, Sampadaa Hulivana, Shruti Krishna, Dr Suri, among others, was Yuva’s sophomore film. Music by Charanraj was a major highlight, while the film itself was rather average.
