Ekka out on OTT: Yuva Rajkumar’s much-awaited film is now streaming

It took Yuva Rajkumar’s Ekka a good 4 months to find a streaming home, longer than most other Kannada films that get OTT deals. And when it did, it was not where it was expected to land. Ekka is now streaming on Sun NXT (available via OTTplay Premium also). Considering that most Kannada filmmakers prefer for their films to be on Amazon Prime Video, on revenue sharing or even rental basis, there are very few that make it to other platforms. Sun NXT, in that sense, is the second best as far as the number of films heading to the platform goes.

But here’s the thing – Yuva’s self-titled debut film headed to Prime Video, while the producers – KRG Studios, PRK Productions and Jayanna Films – all have had dealings with the platform for their other productions. It was considered a given that Ekka would land on Prime Video. When it didn’t, the next possible scenario involved Zee Network. Two of the three banners that backed Ekka produced Kannada web series for the platform. Perhaps, the understanding was that the network would then pick up Ekka, it was thought. Wrong again.

So, yeah, it has finally made its way to Sun NXT, after a week’s delay. The film was initially announced as a November 7 release and then pushed to the 13th. The film, directed by Rohit Padaki, features music by Charan Raj, while the star cast also includes the likes of Sampada Hulivana, Sanjana Anand, Atul Kulkarni, Poorna Mysore, Puneeth Rudranag, Dr Suri, Adityaa, among others.

The plot of Ekka

Ekka revolves around Mutthu, whose peaceful life in his village is upended when a good friend cheats him. With the likelihood of his mother being evicted from the house his ancestors built looming large, Mutthu heads to Bengaluru to find a way to clear his debt – either by sheer hard work, or by finding the friend who put him in that situation.

He finds a job as a cab driver and all is well until a passenger is attacked. Muthu rushes him to hospital, where it is revealed that he’s saved one of the city’s most powerful gangsters. Soon enough, Mutthu becomes a part of his gang, losing his innocence in the process.
