Eko movie: What happened to Kuriachan? The ending of Sandeep Pradeep’s thriller explained

The 2025 Malayalam movie Eko made its OTT debut on Netflix on New Year’s Eve, winning more appreciation as viewers are pulled right into the world of this moody mystery thriller. Actor Sandeep Pradeep leads the film as Peeyoos, taking care of the elderly woman, Mlatti Chettathi, whose husband Kuriachan, a mysterious dog breeder, is said to be absconding. What’s the plot of Eko?

Directed by filmmaker Dinjith Ayyathan, Eko: From The Infinite Chronicles of Kuriachan mostly unfolds on a hilltop, guarded by a pack of dogs. Kuriachan (played by Hindi actor Saurabh Sachdeva), a skilled dog breeder, is absconding for the past several years after a crime. First Mohan Pothan (Vineeth), who was once a close friend of Kuriachan, arrives to find Kuriachan but is later found dead. Later, a Navy official (Narian) too turns up looking for Kuriachan. His Malaysian wife, Mlatti Chettathi (Biana Momin), lives on the hilltop while the young Peeyoos help her out.

What happens to Kuriachan in the Eko movie?

Writer-cinematographer Bahul Ramesh has penned the script of Eko movie, which has more layers of mysteries attached to it as the story unfolds. The Navy official questions Mlattathi chettathi about Kuriachan and when was the last time she saw Pothan.

It is shown in flashback scenes that Pothan informed Mlattathi chettathi, who was Soyi in Malaysia, that Kuriachan had in fact trapped her husband, told her that he is dead and got married to her as he was lusting for. A heartbroken Mlattathi Chettathi, who left her native land for Kuriachan, confronted him about the same before he went into hiding.

Even as the question revolves around who exactly is Kuriachan, and how he got married to a Malaysian woman, it is revealed that Peeyoos is not who is said to be. Sukumaran and Soman, who were working as labourers, in fact are cops who figure out that Peeyoos is a fraudster. The youth, who has taken the place of Peeyoos, is revealed to be a close aide of Kuriachan who is also on the lookout for his ‘master’. He manages to neutralise both the cops and heads to the hilltop to find Mlatti Chettathi, staring far away into the hills with a binocular in hand. The elderly woman and the youth talk in ‘dog’ metaphors and how Kuriachan was on the lookout for the perfect breed.

Parallelly, the Navy officer then deduces what if Kuriachan is in fact, trapped and the very dogs that he had trained are preventing him from leaving his hideout. The youth realises that his cover is blown, reaches out for his knife in the bag. The youth Peeyoos turns behind to see the pack of dogs surrounding him, and he realises that there is no escape. In a thrilling climax, it is revealed that Mlatthi Chettathi won over the loyalty of the dogs and used Kuriachan's own canines to take revenge on him.

The film ends with - Sometimes, protection and restriction… they appear to be the same, a statement that Kuriachan had earlier made and is the underlying theme of the mystery thriller.
