Ekta Kapoor hits back at Anurag Kashyap for 'saas bahu' comment: Darling, how about self-aware?

Anurag Kashyap (Haddi) called out Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos for his comment on Sacred Games, but at the same time, the filmmaker hit back at saas-bahu dramas. This happened right after the OTT streamer collaborated with Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms. Thus, Ekta has also responded to Kashyap's comment. Here's what happened...

Ekta Kapoor hits back at Anurag Kashyap

While supporting Netflix CEO in the debate, Ekta clearly called out Kashyap for the 'you're so dumb' comment. She asked whether Kashyap feels he is smarter and cooler for calling someone else dumb and added, "Darling, how about gracious!!! and self-aware?????? An art that a lot of artists don't have!" The producer further defended the 'saas-bahu' statement by mentioning that Indian women found a voice thanks to Indian dramas. She credited Chicago research for the same and added, "But artists who talk of an inclusive world are actually more classist. We must do away with this 'U can't sit with us, we're better' attitude for democracy and fair play! Love n light to all (sic)."

Anurag Kashyap's statement on saas bahu

After Sarandos' comment on Sacred Games went viral, Kashyap, who helmed the series, hit back by saying that the Netflix co-CEO should have started with saas bahu. He then mentioned how Sarandos is doing that now (unclear on whether it was a dig at the Netflix collaboration with Balaji or a generic statement). Kashyap ended his tweet by calling Sarandos 'the definition of dumb' and simply wrote, "Good to discover that. This explains everything now."

The Sacred Games comment

The comment on Sacred Games (featuring Go Goa Gone actor Saif Ali Khan and Costao actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead roles) is where it all began. It was at a recent podcast that Sarandos mentioned how he would have preferred to introduce Sacred Games to India a few years later. He stated that the Indian market was going to be slower, but showed excitement about the ever-expanding market anyway. The Sacred Games comment is what did not sit well with Kashyap and thus, a new controversy was introduced.
