Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha is currently witnessing a lacklustre run at the box office, after a number of people called for a boycott of the film. Many Bollywood celebrities have weighed in on the current ‘boycott trend’ Bollywood is facing at the moment. Ekta Kapoor recently spoke of the calls to boycott Aamir’s film.
Ekta said in an interview with Navbharat Times, "It is so strange we are boycotting the very people who have given the best of business in the industry. All the Khans in the industry (Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan), and especially Aamir Khan are legends. We cannot boycott them. Aamir Khan can never be boycotted, the soft ambassador Aamir Khan can not be boycotted."
Social media was awash with demands for a boycott of Laal Singh Chaddha even before the film's release. According to Hindustan Times, a lawyer from Delhi even reported Aamir, Paramount Pictures (producers), and numerous other people to the police for reportedly "disrespecting the Indian Army and hurting Hindu Sentiments" through Laal Singh Chaddha.
The movie's box office performance has been terrible; in its five-day opening weekend, it failed to even surpass Rs. 50 crore. The festivals of Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day, along with the weekend, might have helped the movie, which came out on August 11. It only managed to earn RS. 46 crore over the first weekend, though.
In response to the boycott requests, Aamir had stated during a news conference before the movie's release that he was sorry if he had harmed anybody "by any means" and promised to honour their emotions if they chose to avoid seeing the movie. Although he emphasised that a large number of individuals had put a lot of effort into making the film, he would genuinely appreciate it if people watched it and enjoyed it.
Laal Singh Chaddha is the official Hindi adaptation of Tom Hanks' Academy Award-winning 1994 film Forrest Gump. The movie is directed by Advait Chandan, and it is produced by Kiran Rao, Viacom18 Studios, and Aamir Khan Productions. Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya all have significant parts in the movie.
