Elliot Page’s Vanya from The Umbrella Academy to come out as transgender in season 3; see first look of Viktor here

In the show's third season, Elliot Page’s character, Vanya Hargreeves, will come out as transgender. The actor took to Twitter to break the news, and also shared the first look at Viktor Hargreeves.

Page played Vanya in the first two seasons, a cis-gender woman who unleashed hell in the first season, eventually leading to global destruction. The character, who had her powers hidden from her, will be seen transitioning in the third season of the show. Known as Viktor, the character will use he/him/his pronouns, according to Variety. 

Page took to social media to announce the news, sharing a photo of his character and writing, “Meet Viktor Hargreeves." Netflix replied to the tweet, writing, “Welcome to the family, Viktor—we’re so happy you’re here.” 

“WE LOVE YOU VIKTOR," replied the official Twitter handle of Umbrella Academy, also adding a couple of violins along with the text. 

Page came out as transgender and transitioned in December 2020, and Netflix told Variety that there were no plans to change Page’s character on the show. Netflix changed all of Page’s previous credits to Elliot Page. 

The second season of the show ended with the Hargreeve siblings making it back to their timeline but realizing they had changed it. In the altered timeline, they understand that Reginald created the Sparrow Academy and not the Umbrella Academy. 

The third season of the show is slated to start streaming on Netflix on June 22, 2022, and will pick up where it left off.
