Elumale out on OTT: Raanna and Priyanka Achar’s cross-border love story streaming now

It took actor Raanna nearly 3 years to go from being a one-film hero to his sophomore project. After his debut, Ek Love Ya, Raanna took a while to find a script that he really liked, but the project failed to take off, delaying his return to the screen. Everything eventually fell in place when filmmaker Tharun Sudhir decided to back the vision of debutant director Punit Rangaswamy with Raanna in the lead.

Called Elumale , the film released in theatres on September 5, amid a very positive vibe based on the trailer and that it is a Tharun Sudhir film. Yet despite largely good reviews, the thriller with a love story at its core, failed to thrive at the box office. Tharun’s long-term association with Zee Network as judge on the reality show Mahanati ensured that they picked up the film’s streaming rights, a privilege not many Kannada movies enjoy. Elumale became available on Zee 5 (and on OTTplay Premium) as of October 17.

What is Elumale about?

The film has Raanna as Harisha, a cab driver in Mysuru, madly in love with Revathy (Priyanka Achar), a girl from an affluent Salem-based family, he’d met when she was studying in Mysuru. Her family gets wind of their relationship and attempt to get her married to someone else, but her heart lies with Harisha, so she runs away from home, determined to make a life with him.

Revathy makes her way to Mysuru, even as Harisha finishes up a trip with a tourist family, and then, he gets waylaid by a bunch of cops dealing with a mess they created and hope to dump on him. As Harisha desperately tries to make his way to Revathy, he realizes that they also find themselves right in the middle of Operation Cocoon, the mission to capture or kill forest brigand Veerappan. Will they make it after all?

Elumale features rousing music by D Imman, while the cast also includes the likes of Kishore, Rakesh Maiya, TS Nagabharana, Jagappa, Jagapathi Babu, Sardar Sathya and Yogi Ram, among others.
