In an earlier interview with News18, Kangana Ranaut said that she has made several wrong choices on many levels and directing Emergency was one of them.
Admitting she took it for granted, the actress added, "I previously talked about the movie Kissa Kursi Ka. Nobody has seen that film to date and back then, they burnt all the prints. Also, nobody made films about Mrs Gandhi. Upon watching Emergency, today’s generation will be surprised to think how she became like that; after all, she became PM three times. I underestimated things and thought that I would be able to get away by making a film on Emergency," she added.
Meanwhile, Emergency stars Kangana as former PM Indira Gandhi. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Ashok Chhabra, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, Vishak Nair, and Satish Kaushik in key roles. The film was released in cinemas on January 17.
The biographical political drama revolves around the 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 when the late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed a state of emergency across India.
Kangana played the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film while Anupam Kher played the role of Jayaprakash Narayan. Notably, he wrote her a letter from the jail. Shreyas Talpade was seen as the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Milind Soman played the role of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, who asked her if she wanted a war.
