Emergency: Shreyas Talpade is Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Kangana Ranaut-Anupam Kher film, character poster out

Shreyas Talpade will essay the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Kangana Ranaut’s first solo directorial venture, Emergency. The makers recently unveiled the character poster of the actor from the film.

Ranaut took to her official social media handles to share the poster of Talpade as the late politician. In the post’s caption, Ranaut called Vajpayee ‘a true nationalist whose love and pride for the nation was unparalleled’.

In a statement, the actress referred to Vajpayee as one of the ‘heroes’ of the emergency period in the country, who was still a young leader when Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister. The actress said that they were lucky to have Talpade on board for the role, calling him a ‘versatile actor’ and ‘powerful performer’. Ranaut added that she thought Talpade’s performance as Vajpayee will surely be one of the most memorable in his career.

Opening up about his character, Talpade referred to Vajpayee as one of the most ‘revered, intelligent, learned, influential and loved’ leaders of the country. “To portray him on screen is not only a big privilege but also a huge honour and definitely a bigger responsibility’, he said.

The actor spoke of how he hoped to live upto audiences’ expectations, saying he would do his best to essay the part. On collaborating with Ranaut, Talpade said it was an ‘outstanding’ experience to see Ranaut direct a film. Calling her one of the most versatile and finest actresses in the industry today, Talpade said that she was clear in her vision as a director. He added that he was proud to be directed by her in her ‘magnum opus’.

In Emergency, Ranaut stars as Indira Gandhi, while Anupam Kher essays the role of Jayaprakash Narayan. Kher’s and Ranaut’s first looks were also unveiled recently.
