Marvel Studios has officially added Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke to the upcoming Secret Invasion series. The show is said to be a sequel to Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Clarke will join an already stellar cast featuring Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Olivia Colman.
Secret Invasion’s first season was announced December 11, 2020, and is expected to premiere in 2022 on Disney+ Hotstar. The story follows a small group of shape-shifting Skrulls who will be conspiring against the superheroes of Earth, aiming to replace them for global domination.
Both Jackson and Mendelsohn will be reprising their roles from Captain Marvel as Nick Fury and Skrull Talos, respectively. While Ben-Adir would be the antagonist of the show, Clarke’s character is yet to be revealed.
This year, Marvel Studios has already released hit shows including WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier that has Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie portraying Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson, respectively.
There are several Marvel shows lined up on Disney+ Hotstar including next month’s Loki starring Tom Hiddleston, and upcoming series such as She-Hulk, Hawkeye spin-off, Moon Knight, Ms Marvel, Ironheart and War Machine.
Multiple-time Emmy award-winner Clarke’s addition to the cast, especially after her hugely-popular role as Daenerys Targaryen in the epic fantasy television series Game of Thrones, will be a huge plus to the show. She was also part of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Me Before You and Terminator Genisys.
