At the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, Zendaya took home the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series yet again for Euphoria. This marks the actress’ second win in the category. The actress beat out fellow nominees, Jodie Comer for Killing Eve, Laura Linney for Ozark, Melanie Lynskey for Yellowjackets, Sandra Oh for Killing Eve, and Reese Witherspoon for The Morning Show.

With the win, the actress made history, becoming the youngest actress to bag two Emmy Awards for acting. She also became the second Black actress to win the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, after Viola Davis. Zendaya had also won the award at the 2020 Emmys for her performance in the first season of Euphoria, making her the youngest actress ever to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

In her acceptance speech, Zendaya said “My greatest wish for Euphoria was that it can help heal people. I want to say thank you to everyone who shared their story with me. I want you to know that anyone who has loved a Rue or feels like they are Rue, I want you to know that I am so grateful for your stories and I carry them with me, and I carry them with her”.

Euphoria, created by Sam Levinson, also features Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, and Sydney Sweeney in pivotal roles. The show was also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. Sydney Sweeney, Colman Domingo, and Martha Kelly also received nominations for their performances on the show. The first two seasons of the show can be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.

The Primetime Emmy Awards 2022 took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The awards were live streamed on Lionsgate Play.
