Following the success of the 2019 Malayalam film Lucifer, Mohanlal has joined hands with filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran for the second part, titled L2: Empuraan. The action thriller is gearing up for release on March 27. Ahead of this, the team is busy promoting the film.
At an event held in Mumbai, Mohanlal, along with Prithviraj and other key cast members took part. The superstar talked about how the Malayalam industry, known for its humble makings, is now coming with a big and pan-Indian film like Empuraan.
“We should meet and make wonderful films. India can make unbelievable films. This is like a gatecrash for us, we are trying to come up with something big from our state. We are a small industry in Kerala but we have done so many things, like we made the first cinema scope, co-production, 3D and now, the first IMAX from Malayalam,” he said.
The film is produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, with Sree Gokulam Movies distributing it.
Lucifer released in 2019 and is available for streaming on Prime Video, although the dubbed version in Hindi is available on the OTTplay Premium app. Written by Murali Gopy, the film revolves around the aftermath of the death of the ruling party's supreme leader in Kerala, with a power vacuum created. The action thriller also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran and others.
