Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Empuraan, starring Mohanlal, is just 16 days away from its big release. Not just fans, industry colleagues are also keenly awaiting the release of this big-budget movie that has been mounted on a massive scale. Now, director-actor Dileesh Pothan has said that it is the need of the Malayalam film industry that Empuraan succeed.
Dileesh Pothan on the significance of Empuraan’s success
Dileesh Pothan, who is currently busy with the promotions of his latest movie Ouseppinte Osiyathu, spoke about the expectations surrounding Empuraan.
"As Empuraan is a movie made on such a huge budget and has so much expectation around it, it is the need of the industry that the film succeed," said Dileesh Pothan, who has also helmed several popular and acclaimed films such as Maheshinte Prathikaaram and Joji.
“As a filmmaker, if I have to plan a big movie, then the current big films should succeed,” Dileesh Pothan added during the promotions of Ouseppinte Osiyathu, which released in theatres on March 7, 2025. Apart from Dileesh Pothan, the film also stars Vijayaraghavan, Hemanth Menon, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Kani Kusruti and Zarin Shihab.
Empuraan release date
Meanwhile, Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is gearing up for its big release on March 27, 2025. Mohanlal will be back as Khureshi Ab'raam or Stephen Nedumpally in this film, which is the second installment in the Lucifer franchise.
The hit 2019 film Lucifer starred Mohanlal, along with a star-studded ensemble cast of Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Manju Warrier, among others. All these stars will be back for Empuraan, which will narrate the tale of Khureshi Ab'raam and the world he rules over.
The dubbed version of the Malayalam film Lucifer is available on OTTplay Premium, along with several other south films in Hindi.
On the other hand, the Empuraan trailer is expected to be unveiled next week, reportedly on March 17, though the team is yet to announce the release date officially. L2 Empuraan has a huge star cast, with names from across various industries.
