Even as the controversies surrounding Empuraan refuse to die down, producer Antony Perumbavoor finally met the media, claiming that the decision to make edits was a ‘collective one’. Putting to rest speculations about disagreements within the L2E team, the Empuraan producer also said that Empuraan star Mohanlal was aware of the film’s story, debunking Major Ravi's claims.
Antony Perumbavoor, whose Aashirvad Cinemas backed Empuraan, has finally addressed the controversies surrounding the film, which evoked a strong objection from the right-wing groups over certain portions shown in the film.
The controversy had escalated further after actor-filmmaker Major Ravi said that Mohanlal had not seen the Lucifer sequel before its release on March 27, 2025. However, Antony Perumbavoor, a long-time associate of Mohanlal, said that the star was well aware of the film's story.
“We never said Mohanlal was unaware of the plot,” he said. When media personnel quizzed him further about Major Ravi’s statements, he said that it was not for him to comment on that.
Taking responsibility for the film, Antony said that it has been a collective decision to make edits. When media personnel pointed out that writer Murali Gopy is yet to publicly respond to the issue, Antony Perumbavoor said, “I don’t believe there is any disagreement over this. It is not possible to make changes if there was.” He also insisted that there was no move to isolate director Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Following the backlash and objections, the makers had earlier said that they are making edits to film, which comes six years after the 2019 hit Lucifer. Empuraan star Mohanlal had penned a post, insisting that he never wanted his film to hurt any section of the audience. Director Prithviraj Sukumaran, who has also starred in the film, shared Mohanlal’s Facebook post but has yet to address the issue publicly. However, writer Murali Gopy has yet to respond to the issue and has not shared Mohanlal's FB post on social media.
