Empuraan: Gokulam Gopalan has now revealed the budget of the Mohanlal-starrer and why he came on board the upcoming Malayalam film, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Gokulam Gopalan, who owns the Sree Gokulam Movies, recently came on board of Empuraan as a production partner along with Aashirvad Cinemas and Lyca Productions. Gokulam Gopalan has now revealed the budget of the Mohanlal-starrer and why he came on board the highly anticipated Malayalam film, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Amid rumours about rift between Lyca Productions and Aashirvad Cinemas and a possible delay in Empuraan release, Gokulam Gopalan’s Sree Gokulam Movies had joined the big-budget Malayalam film. In a recent interview with 24News, Gokulam Gopalan has revealed that the budget of the Empuraan is Rs 180 crore and said that he decided to step in after Mohanlal called him.
"A movie that has been made on a budget of Rs 180 crore should never get stalled. This is Malayalam cinema's first iMax film," remarked Gokulam Gopalan.
While stating that Mohanlal wanted Gokulam to come on board, he said, "Mohanlal was the first to call to resolve the crisis. Then Antony Perumbavoor too called."
Earlier too Gokulam Gopalam had expressed his admiration for the Lucifer star and that his friendship with Mohanlal prompted him to come on board the film. But he insisted that it was the content of the film, and not the budget, that made him pick the movie.
Remarking that Empuraan is one of the best films from Malayalam, “I realised how beautifully Prithviraj has made this film when I saw some parts of it.”
“I wanted to bring such a brilliant movie to the audiences without any hassle,” said Gokulam Gopalan, adding that he joined the film also because of his bond with Mohanlal and Antony Perumbavoor.
L2 Empuraan, the second installment in the Lucifer franchise, is all set to hit theatres on March 27, 2025. The highly anticipated Malayalam film, which is led by Mohanlal in the lead role, and features a stellar cast including Prithviraj Sukumaran , Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Eriq Ebouaney, Jerome Flynn, and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
