Saniya Iyappan is set to join the team of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s directorial L2: Empuraan in 2024
Malayalam actress Saniya Iyappan shared an interesting post on Monday, confirming that she has enrolled for an acting course in the UK and will be taking an active break from films for the next three years.
However, OTTplay has exclusively learnt that though the Queen star might not be part of too many films in the near future, she is not letting the opportunity of reprising her role in one of the most-anticipated Malayalam films, L2: Empuraan , pass by.
While there was no doubt initially that the actress will be playing the role of Jhanvi, the daughter of Manju Warrier’s character in Empuraan, what had the audience in a fix was Saniya sharing that her BA Acting and Performance course will last till June 2026.
Empuraan shoot to extend till Summer 2024
However, a source close to the Empuraan team tells OTTplay, “Saniya will indeed be part of the movie. She is currently scheduled to join the film’s shoot during its April schedule next year.” The source, however, did not confirm the location of the schedule, but said that the movie will be shot in several countries.
The team, which began the shoot of the Prithviraj Sukumaran directorial on October 5 in the outskirts of Delhi, is currently filming in Shimla. Mohanlal is expected to wrap his portions and return to Kerala to complete the dubbing portions of Jeethu Joseph’s Neru as well as Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Malaikottai Vaaliban.
While Neru is currently rumoured to hit theatres in December 2023, Malaikottai Vaaliban, which is a period action-drama that has Mohanlal essaying the role of a wrestler, is currently scheduled to release worldwide on January 25, 2024.
Mohanlal set to complete Barroz
In the remaining part of the year, Mohanlal is set to complete the post-production work of his debut directorial Barroz, a 3D children’s fantasy film that has him playing the role of a treasure guardian. For the major part of 2022, Mohanlal had been busy with the shoot of the film, which required extensive VFX work.
The actor is also expected to complete his portions for the Malayalam-Telugu bilingual Vrushabha , which also stars Shanaya Kapoor. The shoot of Empuraan, which is scripted by Murali Gopy and also stars Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran and Manju, is expected to wrap up only by mid 2024.
