The moment that ardent Mohanlal fans and those of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s directorial debut, Lucifer, were waiting for came earlier than expected. The trailer of Empuraan, the second installment in the proposed Lucifer trilogy was released at midnight on March 20, after an inadvertent leak from the team. The trailer was meant to be out at 1 pm on the same day but was officially launched as soon as the leak was found.
Fans, of course, are more than thrilled with Prithviraj’s trailer cut and what can be expected when the 3-hour film opens in theatres across the world on March 27, 2025. Comments ranged from, “a spectacle movie”, to “wildfire”, “banger”, “trailer was LIT”, “huge & historic”, “Brilliance Written All Over It”, “Epic”, “Fanboy #Prithviraj just assured us our idol is coming back in all his glory”, “insane production quality” and so on and so forth. If the response to the Empuraan trailer is anything to go by, fans have been satisfied and how, even though there were a few stray voices that maintained that the Lucifer trailer was a lot better.
One of the most commonly seen comments, however, revolved around a shot of Mohanlal, in front of what appears to be massive blaze, with netizens sure that the response to this scene in theatres will be out of the world. While fans seemed to have not noticed the new characters introduced in Empuraan, Tovino Thomas’ Jatin Ramdas in grey outfits did not escape them, hinting that his betrayal is what forces Stephen to return and save his land. A lot of the discussions also veered towards the speculation that Malayalam superstar Mammootty is also a part of the franchise. It is also speculated that Prithviraj's Zayed's family was victims of the Gujarat riots.
Empuraan has franchise regulars Mohanlal, Prithviraj, Indrajit Sukumaran, Tovino, Manju Warrier, Saikumar, Fazil, Baiju, Saniya Iyyappan, returning to reprise their characters from the original, while newer additions include Suraj Venjaramaoodu, Kishore, Abhimanyu Singh, Nikhat Khan, among many others.
