English Manja, Maavu Bevu and more: Eight new Kannada films to release on April 21

The third release weekend of April 2023 comes fast approaching as Kannada cinema waits with bated breath for the first major success of the year. Big-ticket releases like Kranti and Kabzaa arrived in cinema halls with a lot of promise but failed to leverage the hype and ended up yielding underwhelming results at the box office. In the same vein, the 'content-driven' films like Gowli, 19.20.21, Gurudev Hoysala, Shivaji Surathkal 2, etc., too, were unable to make use of the conducive market despite the encouraging critical and audience reviews.

Regardless, films continue to hit the big screens each week in large numbers and one such cluster will make its way out this Friday. As many as eight films will release on April 21, hoping to break through the bottleneck and yield a positive result at the box office. 

Pramod 'Panju' headlines the only major film of the week, titled English Manja. The Salaar actor plays a street gangster in the film which has been directed by Arya M. Mahesh and produced by David R. Tejaswini is the film's female lead with Sunil Puranik, Dr. Nagendra Prasad and Nagendra Urs, too, part of the cast.

Well-known theatre, television and film actor Suchendra Prasad makes his directorial debut with a drama titled Maavu Bevu. Produced by Rajashekar under the Shri Sai Gagan Productions banner, Maavu Bevu stars Sandeep Neenasam, Danny Kuttappa, Chaitra, Supriya, Ranjitha, Srinivasamurthy and several others.

Ramzan, a film based on the book by Kannada writer Fakir Mohammad Kattadi, will release this Friday, April 21. Joining the film at the box office are Krishne Gowda's Naanu Kusuma, Raghavendra Kumar's Chandini Bar, Somu Kengeri's Magale, Mallu Jamkhadi's Nannaki and Hridaya Shiva's Bisilu Kudure, starring Sampath Maitreya.
