Actor Simran’s latest appearance in Good Bad Ugly has been one of the talking points from the Ajith starrer. While Simran has a legacy in her own way, the actor played an assassin in her cameo appearance, rejoicing the audience who saw Ajith and Simran share screen space after a long time. Panchathantiram is a black comedy film released in 2002 and directed by KS Ravikumar. The filmmaker co-wrote the film with a story by Kamal Haasan and dialogues by Crazy Mohan. Kamal played the lead role, along with Simran, Jayaram, Ramesh Aravind, and others. Panchathantiram is about five close-knit friends, who get into serious trouble after they hire an escort lady for their newly separated friend. However, things go awry after they are led to believe she is dead. In the film, Simran plays Kamal Haasan's wife, and has enough and more quips to offer through her comic role. Sriman, Yugi Sethu, Ramya Krishnan, Urvashi, Aishwarya, Sanghavi, Devayani and Nagesh appear in supporting roles.
Vaalee is a 1999 psychological romantic thriller marking the directorial debut of SJ Suryah. The film stars Ajith Kumar in dual roles, making him both the protagonist and antagonist, with Simran playing the female lead. Vaalee is about two identical twins, and one of them lusting after his brother's wife, making the latter feel insecure and unsafe after her marriage. As much as Ajith Kumar's dual portrayal as hero and deaf-mute villain was appreciated, Simran's acting range garnered much attention.
Priyamanavale is a 2000 romantic drama starring Vijay and Simran in the lead roles, and helmed by Selva Bharathy. In the film, Simran plays a working woman who comes from a humble background and gets married to an NRI man who does not value Indian culture. Vijay and Simran's one of the talked about films, Priyamanavale, is a remake of the Telugu film Pavitra Bandham. The film talked about then-advanced ideas like the pre-nuptial agreement.
Kannathil Muthamittal is a 2002 family drama, helmed by Mani Ratnam. Starring Madhavan, Simran, Nandita Das, Prakash Raj and others, the film is about a couple who reveal to their young daughter that she has been adopted. On the insistence of the daughter, the couple go in search of their birth mother, who is now fighting the Civil War in Sri Lanka. Kannathil Muthamittal had a festival run and fetched many national-level awards as well. Simran’s portrayal as a mother who adopted the child is both subtle and poignant.
Andhagan is 2024 Tamil remake of Hindi film Andhadhun. Simran played the role of Tabu, the antagonist in the film. Headlined by Prashanth, the film revolves around a pianist who pretends to be blind, but becomes the prime witness of a murder committed by a cheating housewife. Actors Karthik, Yogi Babu, Urvashi, Samuthirakani and others play important roles in the film.
