The trailer of Ek Duaa released on Voot’s digital channel on July 19. The web original marks the comeback of Esha Deol in a never-seen-before avatar.
We saw and loved Esha’s bold avatar in Dhoom and Ek Duaa is a stark contrast to the former. She plays the role of a housewife who comes from a conservative Muslim family that prays for a son to be born.
Watch the trailer here:
Esha’s introduction shot has her donning a burqa. Soon, the trailer reveals that her family is leading a hand-to-mouth existence. The lead protagonist has taken a loan from every shop in her lane, which has frustrated the shopkeepers too.
While Esha’s character needs to tackle the criticism directed at her by society, her husband is in a dilemma whether to sell off his only source of income - a black-and-yellow coloured cab.
The trailer is also a glimpse into how the girls are overlooked. Esha’s on-screen daughter is completely ignored while her son gets all the attention from his father.
Esha’s character tries to fight her family by stating that they cannot decide whether a son or daughter will be born.
The film, directed by Ram Kamal Mukherjee, will release on July 26 as part of the Voot Original Film Festival.
It stars Barbiee Sharma, Shreyansh Nick Nag and Rajveer Ankur Singh in the lead roles. Apart from playing the lead female character, Esha is also producing the film with her husband Bharat Takhtani, under their banner Bharat Esha Films.
This is the second time Esha and Ram have collaborated. They previously worked together in Cakewalk, which released in 2018. The film can also be streamed on Voot.
