Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been out for a few weeks now, giving Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans the big-screen experience. Up next in MCU’s roster is Eternals, which stars Salma Hayak.
The actor recently spoke about her character Ajak in an interview with Total Film (via The Director): “I'm not a mother. I'm an alien. I can't have kids. However, my character used to be a man in the comics, now it's a woman,”
Hayek said that director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) wanted to focus on the concept of leadership from the perspective of motherhood. So the actor suggested they add another layer to the character, by adding empathy in her demeanour and in the way she deals with the Eternals.
Co-written and directed by Zhao, Eternals will follow a group of immortal aliens with powers who have been living on Earth for a long time, but were instructed by their overlords to stay out of human matters.
Also starring Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington, Kumail Nanjiani and Richard Madden, the next cinematic entry in the MCU’s phase 4 is set to release in theatres on November 5.
