Minka Kelly, who plays Samantha in season two of Euphoria, has spoken out about the nude sequences in the show. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she discussed her experiences on set. According to Kelly, Samantha, her character, was supposed to get naked in her first scene. Things changed once she conveyed her dissatisfaction to Euphoria creator Sam Levinson.
For the uninitiated, Euphoria follows Rue, a recovered drug addict played by Zendaya, who, like her classmates, struggles with relationships and mental health. The show portrays Gen Z in a raw and unvarnished way, with nuance and violence in its illuminating narratives.
Kelly recalled her nudist scene, stating that she would have loved to do this scene, but she believed they could keep her dress on. To which, Sam told her it was all right. The actor added that he didn't even pause to think about it and he captured a stunning sight that gave him exactly what he desired.
On the set, other cast members have had similar experiences. Chloe Cherry, who plays Faye in Euphoria, was also scheduled to be naked in her first scene. She was used to the situation as an adult performer, but when a cast member objected to the unnecessary nudity, she, too, ended up acting naked.
Sydney Sweeney, who starred in Euphoria, has also talked about her naked sequences from the show, which have gotten a lot of attention online. Levinson, according to Sweeney, always made her feel comfortable.
She stated that she never felt that Sam tried to force anything on her or that he was attempting to get a nude scene into an HBO program. The actor said that he didn't force her to do anything when she didn't want to. She also described an on-set intimacy coordinator who serves as her advocate during some of the more delicate situations.
Euphoria is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar in India.
