Actor Sydney Sweeney has made several headlines recently due to some controversies. And now, the Euphoria star has hit the headlines again but this time, for the right reasons. She has confirmed that she will be joining Sony's Universe of Marvel characters.

The actor earlier shared a news report with a spider emoji, confirming the news that she will be joining Dakota Johnson in Madame Web, directed by S.J. Clarkson. The screenplay is written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless with Kerem Sanga who is said to have penned an earlier draft of the screenplay.

Madame Web is depicted in the comics as an elderly woman on a life-support system that looked like a spider web. Due to her age and medical condition, she never really fought any villains but sources have been quoted by Deadline saying that there is a possibility that the makers will turn the story into something else. Since she has psychic abilities, she could be Sony’s version of Doctor Strange. However, it is still not clear what role Sweeney is playing in the film.

Sweeney is currently filming Tony Tost’s National Anthem, which also stars Simon Rex and Halsey.

Meanwhile, Sony's Spider-Man: No Way Home, led by Tom Holland was the biggest film of 2021. The Marvel movie, which reunited the Spider-Men versions of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, collected $1.85 billion worldwide. The film confirmed the concept of the multiverse in the movie, which will be further explored in Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
