Amazon Studios has dropped a new trailer for its upcoming musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, and it is rife with all the glamour and allure that is characteristic of the fierce world of drag queens.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie tells the story of misfit teen Jamie New, who dreams of just one thing in life, to become a drag queen. The Yorkshire teen may not have a solid plan, but he has big dreams, and starts making his way towards them with the unwavering support of his mother and best friend.
When he finds a veteran drag queen, Miss Loco Chanelle, to be his mentor, Jamie’s visions of sparkly high-heels and untamed extravaganza starts to take flesh. But the road to drag greatness is not smooth, as Jamie has to face off against merciless bullies and an unsupportive father. The trailer shows a snippet of some of these events, which surely will leave viewers in impatient anticipation for the movie, which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 17.
The upcoming musical borrows its story from true events, and is inspired by a documentary on the BBC and a stage musical about Jamie Campbell, an English highschooler who defied convention and showed up at his school prom in his drag queen persona, complete with a flowy gown and blonde wig. The teen’s tale of bravery, even when faced with protests from other parents and teachers, and his support system of mother and friends he could always lean on, culminated in a touching coming-of-age tale about embracing one’s true self no matter how high the odds are stacked against you.
The movie will be the feature directorial debut of Jonathan Butterell and features newbie actor Max Harwood as the flamboyant lead. The film will also be showcased at Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival Outfest.
