After its premiere at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival last year and bagging the NETPAC Asian Select Best Film this year at the 27th Kolkata International Film festival in late April, Abhinandan Banerjee’s Manikbabur Megh (The Cloud & the Man) is all set to be screened at the Marchè Du Film (Cannes Film Market) on Saturday at Palais E.

While talking exclusively with OTTplay, the producer of the film and National Award-winning director Bauddhayan Mukherji said, “Marche Du Film is one of the biggest film markets in the world which attracts buyers, sellers, distributors, festival programmers amongst others. So, it becomes an important cog in the wheel for independent film distribution. Manikbabur Megh is being screened on Saturday at Palais E and will be represented by our sales agent Paul Hudson of Outsider Pictures. My previous films have benefitted from Cannes Market screenings. I hope I can say the same thing about this one post the screening.”

After all the accolades and prestigious screenings, the director is also on cloud nine. “This year India is the country of honour at the Marche du Film. Being able to present our film there, especially this year, obviously made us extra happy,” Abhinandan told OTTPlay

India has been named the Country of Honour at the Marché du Film- festival de Cannes this year. As a result, a host of celebrities from the Indian film industry went to attend the festival as part of the Indian contingent.

Earlier this year, Manikbabur Megh won the NETPAC Asian Select Best Film at the 27th Kolkata International film festival. Abhinandan had said in an interview, “Nothing tastes sweeter than the love you receive from your home. After travelling across the world and all over the country, coming to Kolkata with my film was a special gift.”

Manikbabur Megh is a surrealistic romance between a middle-aged man and clouds. The film features Chandan Sen and Bratya Basu, among others.
