Dibyendu Majumder and Surajit Dasgupta’s short film The Watched Woman will be screened at the 44th Moscow International Film Festival. The festival will take place between August 26 and September 2. Delves into the lives of two women, the film features Aparajita Ghosh and Payel Roy. Aparajita is seen in Srijit Mukherji’s X=Prem. In fact, she will soon be seen in Anjan Dutt’s upcoming series.

Talking about the screening, Aparajita said, “I am extremely happy that this film got selected for such a prestigious film festival. It’s a great feeling for an actor when their film gets global recognition. The character I play in the film is really challenging, and I tried my best to portray the character as perfectly and as naturally as possible. Both Surajit and Dibyendu are very talented and hard-working directors and it’s wonderful to see how new filmmakers are coming up with excellent concepts.”

The Watched Woman is a story of two women – a ’70s actress (Aparajita) and a young woman who wants to be a successful actress (played by Payel). They never meet but they shared the same address at some point in their life. Aparajita’s character is very demanding as she is completely obsessed with needs and status in society. The other woman has a past that keeps haunting her. Their fate brings them to the same bed and both of them get murdered. The film’s one part is in black and white and the other bit is in colour.

Talking about the film, Dibyendu said, “We both are excited that our Film is part of the festival this year and we are waiting for the premiere dates. And also, we are waiting for other festivals’ responses. Such selections give us the motivation to carry on with our independent filmmaking spree. There have always been mysterious deaths of artistes – famous and not-so-famous – in the entertainment world. This film is an allegorical representation of all those mysterious events. This is also a tribute to all the artistes we have lost under mysterious circumstances. Aparajita and Payel have done justice to the roles.” The director also added that Anik Dutta of Aparajito fame wished to watch the film. “This makes us very happy,” he said.
