Exclusive! Babli Bouncer actor Abhishek Bajaj: Would love to be part of more female-led films

It is interesting to notice how, in recent times, some prominent and budding actors are playing pivotal parts in female-led films. Priyanshu Painyuli in Rashmi Rocket, Vikrant Massey in Haseen Dilruba, Shantanu Maheshwari in Gangubai Kathiawadi, and now Abhishek Bajaj in Tamannaah Bhatia's Babli Bouncer.

While in every mentioned film, the story revolves around the journey and struggle of the female protagonist, the male characters are equally interesting but have comparatively shorter screen time.

Asked the question keeping the same thought in mind, Abhishek says if he feared feeling overshadowed by the female star, especially being an actor who is starting off his career in Bollywood, he explains his reason for OTTplay.

Abhishek told OTTplay, " It may sound cliche, but the fact is a story has no gender, only that from which angel we are telling the story. Yes, Babli Bouncer is a film about Babli, who is a bouncer, and there was no film made about a female bouncer. That was the reason why the story was interesting to watch! For me, as an actor, all that matters is the contribution of my character to the narrative. Viraj is the trigger in every emotional situation for Babli. For me, also, I have no fear of getting overshadowed as long as the character is well-written and the overall story is relevant."

Taking reference to his last work, the actor also mentioned, " In our earlier film, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, I played Sandy, and even though my part was not the lead hero, the story was very important to tell. There Vaani's (Kapoor, who played a trans woman named Maanvi) character was something that happened in our cinema for the first time. As an actor, I would love to be part of a film where the overall story is important, and no, I won't mind playing pivotal parts in female-led films."

After a successful stint on television with the show Parvarrish: Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi, the actor made his Bollywood debut with Students of the Year 2 in 2019.
