Exclusive! Barun Sobti on Asur 3: It might happen, but you can't expect genius to happen overnight

Barun Sobti, the lead actor of the web series Asur 2, opened up exclusively to OTTplay on whether the makers of the show are planning on a third season of the show.

Ever since season 2 of Asur dropped, fan theories have been doing the rounds about the next generation of Asur and the plans of the central characters.

When we asked Barun if the makers are planning on a third season, he said, "Asur is a very interestingly written web show, in which alternative screenplays go on simultaneously. So, from a writer's perspective, it is really a tough nut to crack. I do not know how the third season will happen, if at all, but all I can say is that we cannot expect genius to happen overnight. These kinds of stories and the many theories around them take a lot of time to come up with. It is a difficult show to write, and Gaurav (Shukla, the creator and writer of the show) and his team have done a fabulous job in both seasons. He must be dwelling on some ideas that we do not yet know about, so it is better for all of us to wait and watch."

In Asur, Barun essays the character of Nikhil Nair, a forensic expert who works closely with a CBI officer and his mentor, Dhananjay Rajpoot, to track down a serial killer.

In the first season, audiences saw that Nikhil was instrumental in indirectly executing serial killer Shubh's plan. So, one wonders which side Nikhil is on.

Barun explained, "Nikhil is a very precariously placed character, so one really knows which side he is going to be on. But the fun lies there. That's the way the character is written — one will keep guessing what's next, and that's why, for me, it was worth playing the character. From the first season to the second, Nikhil became quite a busy character who dealt with big issues. It is interesting how Nikhil is an emotionally objective character who is very righteous. So, he has a strong standpoint even when he goes against his mentor or sacrifices his daughter."

How will Nikhil and DJ stop Shubh? Will they succeed with their plan or surrender to Shubh? Fans of the show are eagerly awaiting these answers and more, which only another season can give.
