For an actor to have completed 27 years and still stay relevant is no mean feat. Over the past two decades, Biju Menon has constantly reinvented himself and a chief reason for his sustained growth as a performer is that he never stops learning.

The actor, who made his OTT debut this month with Madhu Wariar’s Lalitham Sundaram, in his past two films – cinematographer Sanu John Varghese’s debut film Aarkkariyam and Bro Daddy co-scriptwriter Sreejith N’s directorial debut Oru Thekkan Thallu Case – have collaborated with some of the industry’s best young talents such as Parvathy Thiruvothu, Sharafudheen, Roshan Mathew and Nimisha Sajayan.

Ask him if working them has had an effect on his growth as a performer lately and he tells OTTplay in an exclusive interview, “It does help. I get to learn a lot from them and vice versa. When we are working together, I keenly watch their performance and attitude, and I believe they too do the same.”

The actor is also all praise for the atmosphere that the young group of actors create as well as their discussions that help shape their performances in the scenes.

“Ultimately, everyone performs their best when they are in a comfort zone. None of us are problem-makers and all of us work to better the film,” he says. “We discuss every scene with each other before the take and that warmth always reflects in the movies that we do. I want all my movies to be like that. I have my own stress and I strongly believe that my best output comes when I am comfortable. So, the first thing we do is to get to know each other and create a friendly atmosphere.”

Biju has currently wrapped up shooting for Oru Thekkan Thallu Case, which is based on GR Indugopan’s novel Amminipillai Vettu Case. He is all set to next join the sets of debutant Saheed Arafath’s crime drama Thankam, which is scripted by Maheshinte Prathikaram and Joji writer Syam Pushkaran.
