Despite the adulation she received after the release of Mayar Jonjal, Chandreyee Ghosh has no time to savour compliments. While juggling between two television serials – Gouri Elo and Faguner Mohona, she is also busy with Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s magnum opus, Binodini – Ekti Natir Upakhyan that features Rukmini Maitra as the lead. In a candid chat with OTTPlay, the actress opens up about her latest release Mayar Jonjal, her work in Binodini, and her love life.

Chandreyee’s performance in Mayar Jonjal has been liked by viewers and critics alike. Talking about the film, she said, “When I first had a meeting with Kobi (Indranil Roychowdhury, director), Mayar Jonjal was supposed to be a short-ish film. It was a year before the actual shooting started. And then finally he called me and informed me about the film. I was drawn to the character from day one. There are dramatic moments, conflicts, emotional compromises, and whatnot! Beauty has everything. It was a challenging character for sure.”

Chandreyee found a ‘teacher’ in Indranil. She also shared her experience with the team. “The team was amazing. They have an unmatchable wavelength. Their passion is raw. Kobi is an outstanding mastermoshai (teacher). You will feel that he is strict. But in reality, he will bring out the best in you in his strict way. One more thing about him is that he has an intense level of shock absorption capacity. There can be many crises on the floor and yet when you look at him he would give you a reassuring glance and take the right shot. This is very calming for actors. Director’s energy is always very important on the floors. Kobi has the perfect way to deal with imperfections. He is a sorted, calm, and peaceful leader,” she said.

Meanwhile, Chandreyee is also working in Binodini – Ekti Narir Upakhyan. In the film, the name of her character is Gangabai. Talking about her role, the actress said, “It is an interesting and significant character. Ramkamal has thoroughly researched the subject. Gangabai is not a long character but is very significant in Binodini’s childhood. I am feeling great working in this beautiful period drama.”

Chandreyee worked with Rukmini for two days. Talking about her fellow actress, she said, “Not only Rukmini is a gem of a person, but she is also a curious actress. She constantly asks how to better her performance, and she improvises and discusses. I found that very interesting. It comes from genuineness.”

Chandreyee is a stellar actress and yet the number of her feature films is limited. Does she get her due? “I feel that I am lucky and blessed. I wanted to be an actress since my childhood. It has been 22 years and I saw transition periods like the emergence of mega serials, OTTs, and finally, the pandemic. I am still working and I am working in every medium. Directors are still trusting me with characters. I am getting good offers and I am very happy about that,” said the actress.

Elaborating on her career in television, Chandreyee added, “I have never been very ambitious. Television offers played a very important part in my life. Serials are my bread and butter and they also gave me widespread popularity.”

The actress is said to be in a relationship. When asked, Chandreyee laughed out loud and quipped, “Oh, of course, I am in love. I am always in love. I will be in love till the last moment of my life. Love is my past present and future. I am dating but I cannot name any one person because the others will be heartbroken.”
