Tanuj Virwani began his career with Luv U Soniyo in 2013, however, he rose to fame with his stint in projects like Inside Edge, Code M, Cartel and Illegal - Justice, Out of Order. The actor is now back with another season of Code M opposite Jennifer Winget and has been garnering praise from the audience.
In a candid chat with OTTplay, Tanuj talked about multiple things including his latest show, his upcoming projects and more. Excerpts:
Talking about what new the audience can expect from season 2, Tanuj mentioned, "For one, Jennifer and I are ageing like fine wine. The way the script is written and the way it has been shot, it shows on screen because it's a responsibility after you delivered a successful first season that a follow-up season is a test. Everybody associated with the show was determined towards making it the best season possible."
Talking about the relationship between his and Jennifer's characters i.e., Angad and Monica, the actor unveiled that this time the makers have dug a little a dipper into the dynamics of both and have also externalised and internalised certain aspects.
Surprisingly, talking about his prep for the character, Tanuj revealed that he did not take any training for that but just went on the set and played Angad.
Talking about how different his character in Code M is from the roles he has played in his earlier projects, the actor mentioned, "I feel subconsciously there is a part of our personality in every character that we play." He further expressed his wish of playing a cheesy romantic character. " There is nothing better than being that cheesy romantic guy. This is coming from a guy who loved SRK through the 90s and 2000s. That is like totally my domain. I love those YRF, and Dharma films. So, I would love to do that."
When asked how the audiences would have responded to the Code M if it was a TV series and not an OTT show, Tanuj replied that firstly it would have to be an even longer format for TV. "And I think a show like Code M could have worked on television because it's very fluid in nature. So, it would have made a very gripping television series."
When asked to share his opinion on the censorship on the OTT platforms, Angad quoted a beautiful saying from MCU's spider man and said, "As Ben Parker told Spider-Man, 'With great power comes great responsibility.'"
"I feel that it has been misused over these past few years. I have been a part of OTT since its very inception I thought a lot of us have abused this privilege. So I think some amount of self-censorship is also required," he added.
Talking about his upcoming projects, he mentioned that his show called Murshid with Kay Kay Menon is coming out. "I also completed a film called Johnny Jumper with Vijay Raaz and Zarina Wahab," he added a signed-off.
