When Head Bush, the biopic of slain gangster MP Jayaraj was announced, it was pitched as a two-part story, with the first detailing his rise in Bengaluru’s underworld and the second with all the events leading up to his death. Produced by actor Dhananjaya as the second venture under his home banner Daali Pictures, the film had him take on the role of Jayaraj. Directed by Shoonya, the first part of the film got the tagline ‘The Rise and Rise of Bengaluru’ and will focus on the 70s timeline of Jayaraj’s ascend in the underworld, with the support of MD Natraj (played by Raghu Mukherjee), the son-in-law of then chief minister Devaraj Urs (portrayed here by Dynamic Star Devaraj).

Head Bush Part 1 is all set to release in theatres on October 21. The film, certified ‘A’ for its fair share of violence and abusive language, also has Loose Mada Yogi, Vasishta N Simha, Balu Nagendra, Payal Rajput, Sruthi Hariharan and V Ravichandran in pivotal roles. And while much has been written about the fact that this is only the first instalment in the Jayaraj saga, Dhananjay has not clarified the timeline on the follow up.

When OTTplay caught up with the actor for a chat about Head Bush, we asked him about when Part 2 will be out. Turns out, there’s no plan in place yet. “We have not set a timeline for Head Bush Part 2. It will largely depend on the audience response to the first instalment, but we are hopeful of returning to this tale in the foreseeable future. Agni Sridhar’s book, My Days in The Underworld, on which Head Bush is based, has so much content that we can have multiple volumes of this tale and not just two. I do agree that there has to be a conclusion to what we have set out to show. But then, some of the events of what happened after the end of our story in Head Bush, have already been tackled in Aa Dinagalu. So, we will have to see how to take the narrative forward,” explained Dhananjaya.
