The cast and crew for Netflix’s upcoming anthology based on legendary writer MT Vasudevan Nair’s literary works are taking shape and the latest filmmaker to join the team is Jayaraj, who will be helming one of the eight segments.

Talking exclusively to OTTplay, National Award-winning director Jayaraj confirms, “Yes, I am doing a segment in the anthology that is based on MT’s Swargam Thurakunna Samayam.” MT Vasudevan Nair had won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for the short story in 1986.

Earlier there were reports that Unni Mukundan was set to work with Jayaraj in the segment. However, the director tells us, “We had earlier planned another featurette. But with this segment, the lead actors will be Indrans, Nedumudi Venu, Renji Panicker, Kailash and Surabhi Lakshmi. Further details of the project will be revealed later.”

Apart from Jayaraj, Priyadarshan and Santosh Sivan will also be helming segments in the anthology. While Biju Menon is reported to be playing the lead in Priyadarshan’s segment that is based on Shilalikhithangal, Santosh’s feature has Siddique in the lead.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Santosh told us, “Out of the eight stories, mine is the only one that is a bit abstract and poetic. The others are a bit verbose and are filled with dialogues. The short story is about a guy who returns to his roots. Visually, it has a lot of layers too.”

MT Vasudevan Nair is keen on working with directors who have not helmed his scripts earlier for the upcoming anthology in which each segment will be around 40 minutes each.
